Egg Farmers of Canada (EFC) is seeking a Food Safety Specialist who will be responsible for the continuing development and maintenance of EFC s On-Farm Food Safety Program (OFFSP). Since 1990, EFC has prided itself on their attention to food safety. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food safety, governance, and providing Canada with safe and reliable egg products. Your ability to manage and develop food safety programs, liaise with multilevel stakeholders and conduct internal audits will contribute to the success of our On-Farm Food Safety Program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
This position reports to the Field Operations Manager and responsibilities include:
Lead discussions at Board appointed committees related to OFFSP matters and responds to action items
Present changes to the OFFSP to the EFC Board of Directors for review
Liaise with multiple external stakeholders, federal and provincial governments, and industry stakeholders
On-Farm Food Safety Program Development and maintenance (including shell eggs and pullets)
ensure that it is manageable, cost effective, and technically sound and meets CFIA review requirements
Provide continuous quality improvement by recommending changes to the program
Develop commodity specific training material for OFFSP delivery agents and auditors
Monitor Federal Government Acts and Regulations that affect OFFSP
Provide recommendations to HACCP team and Board Committee regarding criteria requirements to certify a production unit
Lead HACCP team, development of agenda, administration of meetings and materials
Conduct internal audit of the delivery and audit function to determine uniformity across Canada
Represent EFC at meetings and CFIA AI surveillance meetings
Maintain the Bio-Security Protocol
Correspond with various stakeholders through email, telephone and face-to-face meetings
Qualifications/Skills:
General knowledge of the following:
Various related programs including CFIA Food Safety Enhancement Program and CFIA OFFS Recognition Program
CFIA acts, regulations and requirements for OFFSP management system.
Codex and HACCP
Program auditing principles
Industry trends and developments
Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in English for the purpose of completing daily activities, including multilevel stakeholder communications and Board of Director presentations
Demonstrated ability to multi-task, take initiative and be results-oriented

Formal Education:
Undergraduate degree in food science or food safety is a minimum
Master of Science in relevant discipline is considered an asset
Audit training (ASQ or similar) is required
Formal HACCP training is considered a strong assetExperience:
2 3 years of experience in agriculture, animal/poultry science or a relevant field
Experience in on-farm food safety is an asset
