The Ministry of Agriculture works to promote an innovative, adaptive and globally competitive agrifoods sector for the benefit of all British Columbians. The agrifoods sector- which includes agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture and processing - is an important and successful contributor to the B.C. economy, and has responded vigorously to challenges and opportunities. The Ministry s support of healthy and safe agrifood and seafood production and post-production processing provides new and value-added products for domestic and international markets, contributing to B.C. jobs and the economy as well as to diversified rural communities. The principle function of this position is to provide provincial leadership in developing programs and technical information in the discipline of agricultural waste management. The purpose of this position is to promote the development and use of environmentally acceptable agricultural waste management systems; including manure and other waste handling, storage, treatment and disposal. Key duties include:
Identifying current and anticipated environmental issues pertaining to agricultural wastes and develops programs, standards and guidelines that protect air, land and aquatic resources;
Serves as expediter and project manager for waste management related programs and projects;
Designs and carries out technology development and demonstration projects involving applied research, prototype testing, equipment evaluations and demonstrations to solve complex waste management and nuisance problems;
Provides leadership in identifying and addressing agricultural waste and waste to energy management issues. The position is expected to work in all areas of waste management relating to agriculture;
Develops and delivers up-to-date and innovative technical information to agencies and the agriculture industry regarding waste management.
To be considered for this position your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have the following:
A degree in Bio Resource Engineering or Agricultural Engineering or an engineering degree in a similar discipline that specializes in resource management.
Must be registered or immediately eligible for registration as a professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia. Immediately eligible means; currently registered member in good standing as a Professional Engineer in another Canadian Jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to APEGBC.
Five years of experience as a professional working in agricultural waste management systems.
