Palmerston Grain a leading buyer of Wheat, Corn, and Soybeans in Ontario is currently looking for a Grain Merchant with proven industry experience to lead Palmerston Grain's merchandizing activity. The Grain Merchandizing Manager will supervise the merchandizing staff and provide training and support to the staff. Over time involvement in staffing and organizational decisions would be expected.
The role would be to manage the overall merchandizing function at Palmerston Grain. As the role is of a transformative nature, actual responsibilities will evolve in accordance with the requirements of the company and the skills and interests of the incumbent. In the short term the key requirements are:
• Supervise trading in all commodities
• Participate in establishing basis in all commodities
• Maintenance of producer/customer logs
• Review hedging process for all commodities and related currency
• Establish and maintain key customer relationships
• Review of contracting practices
• Support for and participation in annual planning process
In the longer term, the incumbent would be expected to focus on employee development and human resource allocation. In particular, the development of in-house resources to support merchandizing by training existing and new resources as appropriate with a view to developing a merchandizing organization capable of operating on a standalone basis.
Responsibilities:

• Training and supervision of reports
• Participation in monthly management meetings addressing overall company performance and
the evolving merchandizing strategy
• Support for accounting/finance function development of improved management and
stakeholder reporting using the Thede Ward system augmented by report generation including use of Excel
