We are currently hiring an experienced Sow Barn Manager, this position is available immediately and offers competitive salary and benefits.
Purpose:
The Sow Barn Manager will lead and manage the sow barn and gilt barn regarding the care and welfare of the animals, production efficiency, site care, and provide leadership and development opportunities to employees.
Responsibilities:
Plan, direct and carry out all production phases and implement processes as required.
Implement action plans to meet farm-specific set goals.
Actively communicate with management and veterinarians regarding the health of the herd.
Manage feed and medication inventory for the herd, and other supplies/equipment for the barn and employees.
Execute production reports in a timely manner.
Manages financial performance by controlling costs.
Manage labour resources by controlling hours worked by each employee and enforce employee efficiency. Hiring new labour where required.
Carry out repairs/maintenance, and arrange service calls using a timely and proactive approach.
Ensure all safety procedures are in place and take action to lower safety incidents.
Ensure safety equipment is provided and utilised by all barn employees.
Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the barn.
Ensure strict compliance to all bio-security protocols and take action as necessary.
General housekeeping and perform other duties as assigned.
Skills:
Be proficient in the English language possessing effective verbal and written skills.
Must have excellent computer skills.
Have the ability to communicate and lead effectively and maintain positive working relationships with Executive management and other support staff, to ensure that the breeding process runs smoothly.
Able to work within a fast paced environment, work under pressure and to tight deadlines, pay attention to detail, handle a large workload, have a proactive approach to resolving issues.
Possess excellent management skills; reading text, document use, numeracy, writing, problem solving, critical thinking, job task planning and organising, significant use of memory, finding information, continuous learning, to a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Able to follow proper safety precautions while working with large animals to minimise the chance of injury.
Tolerant to a physically demanding, noisy, odorous environment.
