Swine Reproduction Technician (ID: 1426)

This person works with a team to take care of boars in a modern, highly bio-secure unit with an attached technical laboratory and processing facility providing a critical service in the food chain. OSI produces and distributes boar semen for distribution to livestock producers in Ontario and around the world to improve the productivity of their swine. In addition, OSI provides technical services in genetic improvement worldwide. Improved swine productivity results in higher quality protein production with less use of resources. Providing high standards of animal welfare is an important part of this teams's mandate. Critical skills that a successful team member will develop include:  following clear procedures for production issues, awareness of the needs and requirements of animals under care, participating as a team member in continuous improvement process development, using critical thinking about how productivity and product quality can be improved and how the team can better provide value to customers. OSI is one of a very small number of swine genetic material suppliers approved to export frozen genetics to customers outside of Canada.
