GENETICIST – Guelph, Ontario
Reporting to the Manager of Genetic Evaluations, and working from the Guelph office, this full-time position
provides the opportunity for a qualified geneticist to work within a strong team environment and directly
contribute to genetic progress of dairy cattle breeds in Canada.
Responsibilities
Research, development and implementation of genetic and/or genomic evaluation systems for novel
traits as well as other traits as required.
Presentations to industry groups for improving their understanding of current and future systems will
be required.
Involved in responding to technical inquiries from the Canadian industry and international
organizations related to Canadian genetic evaluations.
Requirements
PhD in animal breeding, or equivalent training and experience
Sound understanding of the theory and application of linear statistical models in genetic and genomic
evaluation, including single-step methodology
Strong computer programming skills in Fortran, C, R and/or SAS
Knowledge and experience with managing large datasets and associated computational strategies
A self-motivator with excellent communication and presentation skills
Leadership, good team worker and eager to learn
Practical knowledge of dairy cattle improvement in Canada and a working knowledge of both the
English and French languages are significant assets of the ideal candidate

Normal office work conditions and telecommuting (hybrid formula or 100% telecommuting). The candidate
may have his/her main office in one of Lactanet's offices in Saint-Anne de Bellevue (Quebec) or Guelph
(Ontario).
